There’s a new reason to smile at the San Antonio Zoo. Kicheko, a 14-month-old giraffe whose name means “laughter” in Swahili, is the latest resident to call the Alamo City home.
Kicheko arrived from Dallas Zoo in June as part of a nationwide conservation initiative and is already making himself known with a calm spirit and a coat full of bold, beautiful patterns. Now part of a trio with Brayden and Waffles, he can be seen exploring the Naylor Savanna or greeting guests at the popular Giraffe Feeding Experience.
“His arrival marks the next chapter in our giraffe breeding program,” said Tim Morrow, President & CEO of San Antonio Zoo. “He’s a beautiful giraffe with unique spots.”

In true San Antonio style, the zoo offers more than just a view from behind the fence. Families can stay overnight in the Spekboom Lodge, a one-of-a-kind lodging experience that includes exclusive access to the giraffes and other animals. Or take a wild ride on the Conserfari Tour, where you’ll feed giraffes straight from a safari truck.
